MEETING A KING P

Some of my Virgin Marys, Sanctified Snatches, and Mary Janes are just starting to get comfortable looking at their own Queen Vs. Now here I come, pushing you even further, by asking you to lock eyes with some one-eyed monsters too. I know that might be a big ask. But I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t important—as my Coochie-Chondriacs and my Notorious V.A.G.s already know. There’s no shame in upping your sex education game. There’s only power in it. Penises come in all different sizes and textures, and they can vary in color depending on genetics, surgery (if you’re with a trans man), and more. But some things will usually be the same. Here’s a quick anatomy lesson on your man’s third leg.

Glans. This is the tip or the head of his penis and it’s a lot like your clitoris in that it’s the most sensitive part of his member. Unlike your clitoris, three things (pre-ejaculate, semen, and urine) come out of the glans through a hole at its center connected to a thin tube called the urethra.

Foreskin. If your man isn’t circumcised, he’ll have this patch of skin that covers the head of his penis. When his member gets erect, it will retract and expose the glans. When he’s flaccid, it will cover the glans. But—heads up, ladies—he has to pull back the foreskin to clean his penis properly or else bacteria, dead skin cells, and oil can build up to cause an odor or inflammation.

If your man is circumcised, that means that his foreskin has been surgically removed. The procedure is usually done for religious, cultural, or hygienic reasons. When performed on a newborn, the surgery is usually quick and simple. When the decision is made later in life, it’s a bit more complicated and can take longer for guys to heal.

Circumcision rates are down in the US, with about 58 percent of boys going under the knife, according to the last report, from 2010. That means your chances of seeing some foreskin are on the rise and there’s nothing to be freaked out about. When my patients do complain to me, I remind them that some women tell me the sex is better. Kind of like he’s ribbed for your pleasure.

Frenulum: It’s where the foreskin meets the underside of the penis. Even if your man has been circumcised, he may still have all or part of his frenulum intact. (Pro tip: use the frenulum as an excuse to check your man out. Tell him you’re curious to see how much he has left after circumcision.) Along with the glans, some guys say it’s a highly sensitive part of the penis (yet another justification for some eyes-wide-open exploring).

Shaft: It’s the entire length of your man’s penis from where it meets his gut all the way to his glans. When a guy gets an erection, vessels that run through his shaft fill with blood, causing his penis to go from relaxed to a rocket ready for take-off.
